Guide: Stop a sender

You can stop Quora emails in Settings under Email & Notifications, and a Gmail filter catches the rest.

Quora’s help center sends you to Settings, then Email & Notifications, for every email type it lets you switch off. A few emails cannot be switched off, so the Gmail filter further down is the backstop for what the settings leave behind.

Quora has its own switch. Batmail's rules cover all your senders the same way.

Quora's Email & Notifications page switches each type of email on or off.

On the Quora website

  1. Go to your Quora Settings page.
  2. In the left-side menu, click Email & Notifications, or go straight to quora.com/settings/notifications.
  3. Choose the types of emails you want, and how often you want to get them.

In the Quora app

  1. Tap your profile icon in the upper left, then tap Settings.
  2. Choose Email & Notifications.
  3. Select Push notifications or Email, depending on which one you want to edit.

Most notification and content emails from Quora also have an unsubscribe link at the bottom. Quora says it opts you out of that email type, so it is the quick route for an email that does not appear on the settings page.

Some Quora emails cannot be switched off, and the settings page does not list every type.

Quora’s help center says not every type of email appears on the Email & Notifications page, and that a few are required. This is what it says about each case.

Quora's help center names a sender on quoramail.com, so the filter covers that domain and quora.com.

Quora’s password reset article names noreply@quoramail.com as the address to allow if reset emails do not arrive, which shows Quora mails from more than one domain. The company’s own domain is quora.com, so the search below lists both.

Paste this into the Gmail search box

from:(quora.com OR quoramail.com)

Open this filter in the Gmail filter generator

Choose Skip the Inbox (Archive it) and a label, not Delete it. The password reset email comes from quoramail.com, which the search includes, and a label keeps it one click away. Save the filter with Show search options, then Create filter, following Google’s steps.

A filter does not stop Quora sending. It moves what arrives out of your inbox, so use the settings above for the source and the filter for the leftovers.

Deactivating stops every Quora email, and logging back in turns the account on again.

  1. In Quora’s Settings, open the Privacy tab.
  2. At the bottom, click Deactivate Account.

Quora says that by deactivating, you will no longer receive any emails or notifications from it, while anything you posted stays on the site. You can reactivate at any time by logging back in with your email address and password.

These are the questions people ask next.

How do I stop the Quora Digest and other Quora emails?

Open Settings, then Email & Notifications (quora.com/settings/notifications), and switch off the email types you do not want. Quora's help page says you can set both the types and how often you get them. Most Quora emails also have an unsubscribe link at the bottom that opts you out of that email type.

Why am I still getting some Quora emails?

Quora's help center says not every type of email appears on the settings page, and a few are legally required, such as updates to its Terms of Service or Privacy Policy. Space admins also keep getting notices about their Space.

Can I stop all Quora emails without deleting my account?

Quora's help center says deleting the account is the way to end all communication from Quora. Deactivating the account also stops every email and notification, and logging back in reactivates it.

Does a Gmail filter stop Quora from sending email?

No. A filter acts on mail after it arrives, so it moves Quora's emails out of your inbox but Quora still sends them. Use Quora's settings to stop them at the source and the filter for whatever is left.

Will I still get my Quora password reset email if I filter Quora?

Yes, if you choose Skip the Inbox and a label instead of Delete it. Quora's help center names noreply@quoramail.com as the sender of password reset emails, and the filter on this page includes quoramail.com, so that email lands under your Quora label.

Every step on this page comes from these official pages.

One plain-English rule can stand in for a settings page per company.

Instead of a switch and a filter for every sender, write one rule, such as “archive newsletters and digests”, and Batmail applies it overnight and logs the reason for each action. Scout is free on one inbox, no card required.
