Nextdoor turns emails off with a slider for each type of notification. Because it switches new types on for you automatically, the Gmail filter below, built from the addresses Nextdoor itself lists, is worth setting once.

Nextdoor adds email types without asking. A rule in Batmail applies to whatever arrives.

On Nextdoor, switch the Email slider off for each type of notification.

On the website

  1. Click Settings at the bottom left of the Nextdoor homepage.
  2. Click Notifications in the left menu.
  3. Select which type of email you want to stop getting.
  4. For each kind of notification you can turn off email, push, or both. The slider is grey and on the left when a setting is off.
  5. To stop every Nextdoor email, move the Email slider to Off for each type of notification on each of the tabs.

In the iPhone or Android app

  1. Open the Nextdoor app and tap the menu in the top-right corner.
  2. Tap Settings at the bottom of the screen, then Notifications.
  3. Select which type of email you want to stop getting from the list.
  4. Turn off email or push for each kind, or toggle Allow Nextdoor notifications to turn both off.
  5. To stop every email, move the Email slider to Off for each type on the list.

Nextdoor says to always click Save after you change a setting, and to make sure cookies are enabled in your browser, because settings may not save in a private or incognito window. Deleting the Nextdoor app only removes it from your device and does not stop the emails.

Nextdoor switches new types of email on for you, which is why a filter helps.

Nextdoor’s help says that when it introduces a new type of email notification, you are automatically subscribed to it, and that you should revisit your settings and switch the new type off if you do not want it. A filter on the addresses Nextdoor sends from is the version you set once.

To get fewer emails without stopping them all, choose digests, because Nextdoor cannot filter by distance.

Nextdoor says you can only adjust notifications by the type of post, not by the location of the poster, and that filtering by distance or neighborhood is not available yet. To receive fewer emails, its help suggests setting your preferences to daily or weekly digests only. For each category you can toggle all notifications on or off, or just the email or push ones (Adjust your notification settings on Nextdoor).

Nextdoor's help page lists four sending addresses, so the filter can name them exactly.

If notification emails or sign-in codes do not arrive, Nextdoor tells you to add these four addresses to your contacts. Because Nextdoor publishes them, the filter below uses the exact addresses.

Choose Skip the Inbox (Archive it) and a label rather than Delete it. Nextdoor lists the same addresses for sign-in and verification codes, and a label keeps a code one click away. Save the filter with Show search options, then Create filter, following Google’s steps.

These are the questions people ask next.

How do I stop all Nextdoor emails?

Open Settings, then Notifications, and move the Email slider to Off for every type of notification on every tab. Nextdoor says the slider is grey and on the left when a setting is off, and to click Save after any change.

Why do I keep getting a new kind of Nextdoor email?

Nextdoor says that when it introduces a new type of email notification, you are automatically subscribed to it. Its advice is to revisit your settings and switch the new type off.

Does deleting the Nextdoor app stop the emails?

No. Nextdoor says deleting the app only removes it from your device and does not stop email notifications.

Can I get Nextdoor emails only about my own street?

Not yet. Nextdoor says you cannot filter notifications by distance or neighborhood. To get fewer emails, it suggests setting your preferences to daily or weekly digests only.

Does the unsubscribe link in an email stop everything?

No, only that type of email. Nextdoor's example: unsubscribing from a For Sale & Free digest stops that digest, and you may still get other Nextdoor email notifications.
